September 2008 Officer’s Corner
By Pat Gray, CPIM, CSCP
Welcome to
our 2008-2009 season! We’re getting ready for a jam-packed year at
the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. This will be my first year as President,
and I’ve got a great team working together on the Board of
Directors.
Jeff Cordes, CPIM and Ina Waldron,
CPIM are new volunteers, taking on the Vice President roles in Education
and Membership, respectively. We’re planning several courses in the
CPIM program this year and planning our first session in the new APICS
Lean Training sometime before the end of 2008. We’d like to know
the interest level in Lean, so drop Jeff a line with your thoughts at education@apicsgulf.org.
On the
membership front, we’ll be conducting at least one membership
survey, so we can determine what the Chapter needs to do to address your
needs, wants and concerns. With our challenging economy, it’s
important that we have your input so we can address what’s relevant
to the Florida
Gulf Coast.
Coming back
to the board this year, we have Jim Bedell,
CPIM as our Past President. Tina Jensen, CPIM is back in control of
Finance and Administration. Cinda Whaley, as VP
of Marketing and Publicity is joined by Katrien Dolk-Etz, CPIM and Irene
Carey as Directors. Irene and Katrien are currently updating our website,
www.apicsgulf.org.
Kevin Hauge, CPIM is setting up a terrific slate of
speakers and activities for the year. Several speakers are locals, Sam Farney from ISM (September) and Bill Giambra from Tervis Tumbler
(November); some are nationally know, like Dick Verbeek
(January). Several joint ventures with SAMA (September tour of Port
Manatee) and APICS West Coast and Tampa ISM (joint meeting, networking
night) are planned, along with a plant tour. Top Management Night is
coming in February. That is a great opportunity to introduce your
management team to APICS and show them the value of your membership. Keep up-to-date with our website (www.apicsgulf.org) and with our new
postcard meeting announcements.
The Chapter
can always use helping hands, so if you’re interested in
volunteering and are looking for a challenge, come join the board. It is
a worthwhile experience.
So, hang on to your hats and join us
often during this chapter year!
